 At The Journey Uniting Church we are committed to seeing children getting to know God and developing a relationship with Him. We want to support children as they grow and learn in an environment where they are cared for, encouraged and have heaps of fun! At The Journey Uniting Church we have a variety of relevant and child-centred activities for children of all ages, both on Sundays and during the week.
We have a great team of leaders and helpers who help run our programmes. The safety of our children is very important and so all of our leaders are screened and must undergo a Police Check.

Journey Kids Sunday Programmes
On Sunday mornings we have up to 80 kids participating in our Children’s programmes. All children participate in the initial parts of the 10am service and then leave part way through the service to go to their specific areas.

Golden Grove 10am Service

  • Glow Worms is our group for babies and toddlers (up to 3 years old). The group is supervised by adults who are on a roster, although parents sometimes choose to remain with their child/ren (according to their needs). The sermon can be heard in the Glow Worms room. The children have the opportunity for free play as well as a story and/or singing time.
  • Sunbeams is our pre-school programme for children from 3 years to school aged. Each week the children participate in a variety of activities, including a craft activity, free play, a Bible story and singing. Each month the Sunbeams kids join the older children for Kids Worship.
  • Our children in R-2 group and Year 3-5 groups meet in a school classroom. Each week they participate in both large group and small group activities centred around a biblical theme. Each week the kids creatively focus on a Biblical theme using lots of hands on activities. There is also time each week for sharing and prayer.
  • On Sunday mornings we have a group which caters for Youth in Year 6-9.

Twice a term we have Kids Worship. This is a great time for the children to participate in relevant worship. We have a small band which includes both children and adults. Children from Sunbeams age and up participate in Kids Worship.

Elizabeth Downs 4pm Service
Each week children from 2 yrs old and older gather together.  The children participate in games, activities and learning as they engage with a variety of biblical themes.

At our 5.30pm service we are developing a programme to cater for the children that attend. In a relaxed atmosphere the children participate in a variety of activities and a short devotion and prayer time.
dadboy Journey Kids Playgroup
Our Playgroup has been running for a number of years and currently has sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9.30am to 11.00am. Our Playgroup is held at Golden Grove Uniting Church. Each week the children participate in a variety of free play activities, as well as craft and singing. Throughout the year, Playgroup has a number of special theme days and events.

Each of our sessions has a leadership team, although all parents are asked to help with packing up, preparing morning tea and supervising their own children. Families are required to pay a Playgroup Association insurance fee once a year, as well as a minimal term fee to cover the cost of resources.

Special Events

Each year we take children who are 7-12 years old to Kids Camp Out (KCO). KCO is run by the Uniting Church in South Australia and involves an overnight camp at Adelaide Shores Caravan Park with 2000 other children! It is 24 hours of non-stop fun! Please note that in 2009 KCO will be happening in a different format. At Christmas we also have a special Christmas Eve service involving the children. They all get dressed up and with the help of some adults, creatively tell the Christmas story through singing, drama and dance.
Time Out
An opportunity for Dads (or other special males in a child’s life) and kids to enjoy some ‘time out’ together. Throughout the year there are a number of different events planned. For further details contact David Powell through the church office.
